The City of Memphis works hard to consistently provide accomodations for those riding by bicycle. You can help us by locating the best places for bicycle racks to be installed, by making a request to install a bicycle rack at a commercial or retail location in the City of Memphis.
The Division of Engineering will review your request in the field looking for sites on the public right-of-way that don’t interfere with pedestrian travel and are clear of other street furniture. The City of Memphis utilizes the Bicycle Parking Guidelines, 2nd Edition published by the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP) to determine proper siting for new rack placement, including examples of where we generally do and do not install racks, sufficient quantities of parking, and spacing of bicycle racks.
Many factors influence if and when a bike rack can be installed, so the date and time of installation cannot be guaranteed. If you make a request that a bike rack be installed at a business and you are not the owner, the City will contact the business owner to insure they agree with the request and subsequent installation prior to proceeding with any work.
Bike racks are available on a first come, first serve basis – available at no charge for installation as funding allows. Requests received after funding has been utilized will remain in the queue contingent upon new funding being replenished.
