120071.00 – TAP MS Blvd/Walker Ave Intersection Improvements

City Project#: EN01055
TDOT Project#: 120071.00

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERATotal Budget: $162,500 ($130,000 Federal Grant, $32,500 Local CIP)
Current Phase: Preliminary Engineering – Environmental Phase (01/25/15)

This project includes the installation of sidewalks, curb extensions, curb ramps, crosswalks, and pedestrian signals and countdown timers at the intersection of Mississippi Boulevard and Walker Avenue. The addition of bulbouts, crosswalks, curb ramps, and pedestrian countdown timers will improve the safety of pedestrians and encourage more residents to walk in the area. These improvements will also improve the interaction between multiple modes of travel in the project area and make the movements of pedestrians more predictable and visible. By creating an environment where residents feel safe and efficient when crossing the street or accessing transit services, the City hopes to encourage safe behavior by making the facilities intuitive and easy to use. Proper use of the facilities will result in fewer accidents between all modes of transportation.
