City to Celebrate Bike Month with #MemphisRides Photo Contest

May is National Bike Month, and to celebrate the City wants to see citizens’ snapshots of their fellow Memphians riding bicycles. In return, participants may receive a $150 gift certificate to a local bike shop.

Starting May 1st, the City’s Bikeway and Pedestrian Program will conduct the MemphisRides Photo Contest. Citizens will compete by publicly posting photographs on social media of people riding bicycles. Depending on various criteria, each submitted photograph will receive points. Whoever has received the most points by May 31st will receive the grand prize gift certificate to Pedaltown Bicycle Co., located on Broad Avenue.

To learn the contest rules and how to play, click here or the tab at the top of the website.

Thousands of people ride a bike everyday in Memphis, whether for transportation, exercise, or recreation. In addition to a chance of winning the $150 gift certificate, participants will help raise awareness of this fact through their — ideally numerous — photos.

National Bike Month was established in 1956 as a chance to showcase the many benefits of cycling and to encourage more people to give biking a try. The month includes Bike to Work Week (May 15 – 19) and Bike to Work Day (May 19).

This Friday we’ll post a list of other bike-related events and programming throughout the month of May. Expect plenty to choose from!
