The Carpenter Art Garden is searching for a new Bicycle Teacher to lead its community bike shop program. Through its first two classes, the program graduated five bike mechanics who came directly from the Binghampton neighborhood. At least two of these graduates went on to be hired by Victory Bicycle Studio.

For more about the position, here are excerpts of an email from Carpenter Art Garden board member Clark Butcher:

“We are in need of a new Teacher. This would be great for someone who’s retired, or someone wanting part-time work and has the great interest in giving back. This individual would have a knowledge and passion to share.

“This is a paid position, and one should expect 12-16 hours of teaching per week. This individual would have an assistant, a gentleman named Lee Evans who has been working at the community shop since its inception, and has a great ability to identify and bring-in the hidden talent throughout the Binghampton neighborhood.”
