May is National Bike Month, and people on bikes all across Memphis will be celebrating as part of national Bike-to-Work Day this year on Friday, May 15! If you have not already discovered the joys of getting around by bike in the Bluff City, Bike-to-Work Day and the activities leading up to it are a chance for you to give bicycle commuting a try as cyclists of all skill and experience levels celebrate the bicycle as a viable means of transportation.
Taking part in the event is easy and can be accomplished in just a few easy steps.
- Register through the online form found here. Registration is free and open to anyone
- On May 15, ride your bike to work. Smile all day. (Facebook Event)
- After work, ride your bike to the Bike-To-Work Happy Hour (High Cotton Brewing, 598 Monroe). Share some drinks with other Bike-To-Workers. Win A Prize. (Facebook Event)
- Go to bed at night smiling, wishing you could still be riding.
Remember to let your employer know that you and your coworkers will be participating in Bike to Work Day as part of National Bike Month, and thank them for supporting active commuting as an option for their employees! If you’re new to bicycling, make sure you check out one of the many opportunities to get in some practice rides or maintenance clinics before next Friday.
