In both 2008 and 2010, Bicycling magazine rated Memphis as one of the worst cities for cycling in the US – the only city to earn this distinction in both years. This indictment of the cycliing culture in Memphis sparked unrest in cyclists and advocates across this city and we’ve accomplished much together since 2010.
In the July 2012 issue of Bicycling, Memphis no longer resides at the bottom of the pack with cities like Dallas, TX. Instead, the great work done and the accomplishments met have been recognized by Bicycling, and Memphis has been awarded the Most Improved City for Cycling in its 2012 ranking.
I’m not sure if the July issue has hit newstands yet, but I got my copy in the mail yesterday. Here is the blurb about Memphis…Congratulations to you Memphis. Without your hard work and dedication, this achievement would not have been possible.
Now the hard part…..becoming number the number one city for cycling in the nation!
