Cycling for Everyone

This is a nice video about the robust cycling culture in the Netherlands. While we know Memphis is not Amsterdam, we can take some practical strategies they employed over the last 40 years and begin to change our transportation culture here – most notably, making cycling a viable form of transportation. This won’t be accomplished in Memphis by eliminating other modes of transportation, but by doing a better job at balancing the choices people can make, and integrating those different modes into a seamless network. By creating spaces where all persons, from 8 years old to 80, can safely and efficiently get to their destinations without total reliance on automobiles, we can positively impact the public health, economic well-being, and attractives of this great city.
